Things To Do In Wimberley According to a Local
Jump to:
Explore Wimberley like a local! I’ve called Wimberley home for two-thirds of my life, and it’s incredible to see how much it’s grown. There’s so much to do and see that we’re still checking off our list. This guide lists all of our favorite things to do and places to see in Wimberley. There’s lots of places to eat too, so many, there’s a separate guide here!
Downtown Wimberley (Shopping)
The heart of Wimberley, and the main attraction: the Wimberley Square. I could spend a day or two exploring all of the shops. These are my “must visit” places in Downtown Wimberley:
Ceremony Botanical Studio: The most beautiful plant shop and adjoining potting studio you’ll ever see. Ceremony has so many plants, and other fun goodies like incense and natural beauty products.
Shelter Goods: Next door to Ceremony is its sister store, Shelter Goods, where you’ll find an amazing selection of home goods.
Gold Dust Boutique: Tucked away next to Creekhouse Kitchen & Bar, Gold Dust Boutique is a magical shop with handmade jewelry, decor, crystals, candles and more.
Wall Street Western: A Wimberley classic. You can always find something fun at Wall Street Western, but our favorite part? The shop cat.
Junk Gypsy: A Wimberley transplant from the best antique town in Texas: Round Top. This is a fairly new addition to Wimberley, and wowza is it fun.
Creekside Vintage: Small shop with big heart. Creekside Vintage has so many cute vintage finds. You’ve gotta check it out!
The Bazaar: The name says it all, it’s a little bazaar. Vintage and new, there’s a lot to discover at The Bazaar. You never know what you’ll find.
The Wild West Store: Have you heard of The Boot Whisperer? The Wild West Store owner, Ulli Johnston, is pretty famous for looking at your feet and finding you the perfect pair of boots.
More Shopping
Take a little detour from Downtown Wimberley, and you’ll find even more to explore - especially when it comes to antiques, vintage and thrifting. Here are the best spots:
Jean’s Antique Mall: This might be my favorite place to take visiting friends and family. Jean’s Antique Mall is a hidden gem that you can’t miss. So much to explore, and discover your next treasure.
Rescued Relics: Down River Road, you can’t miss Rescued Relics. If you like antiquing, you’ll love it here.
The Village Store: Just across the street from Rescued Relics is The Village Store. It’s our local thrift shop. Lots to discover if you love a good thrift find.
Hill Country Consignment: Another thrifting paradise with the BEST prices ever. Hill Country Consignment has a little bit of everything, but the clothes are top notch.
Poppi Vernon: This shop is new-ish to Wimberley, and lots of cute vintage furniture and home decor.
Wimberley Market Days: The First Saturday of the. month from March-December, you can go to Wimberley Market Days with 100s of different vendors including lots of vintage, antiques, homemade goods and more!
Wimberley Gardens: It’s not your average garden shop. Pop inside Wimberley Gardens for house plants galore, home decor and other knick knacks.
Best Outdoor Activities
Being outside in nature is good for the soul, and the Texas Hill Country is one of the best places to get outside. The temps in Wimberley are always just slightly lower than Austin and San Antonio. These are the best places to explore the outdoors in Wimberley.
Swimming & Exploring
The summers are still hot, but you can cool off in the Blanco River. Plus with fairly mild winters, there’s so much to explore.
Blue Hole Regional Park: You can’t come to Wimberley without visiting Blue Hole.
Swimming at Blue Hole: Swim season starts on May 1 and runs through Labor Day (the first Monday in September).
Reservations are required. A half day pass is $12 for adults (ages 13-59), $8 for kids (ages 4-12) and seniors (ages 60+).
With a half day pass, you have an option between 9am-1pm and/or 2pm-6pm. See swim details here.
Fun Fact: (If you can believe it!) When I was a kid, a summer season pass to Blue Hole was $25. It wasn’t as developed. Just a picnic table for tickets before walking down the hill to the water.
Walking, Hiking, Biking & More: There’s 6+ miles of trails at Blue Hole Regional Park, sand volleyball courts, soccer fields, a playground and little picnic areas.
7A Resort: You don’t have to stay at 7A to enjoy its private river access. Day Passes are available on first come, first serve basis starting at 10am. Admission is $15/person on Friday-Sunday, and $10/person on Monday-Thursday from May-Sept. It’s only $5/person from October-April.
Cypress Falls Swimming Hole: One of the newer spots in town, Cypress Falls Swimming Hole. It’s a spring fed creek (Cypress Creek). The best part? They don’t require reservations, pets are allowed (on leash), and there’s an onsite bar. Get the full details here.
Jacob’s Well Natural Area: This swimming hole has gone viral many times, and for good reason. It’s super cool, and consider myself lucky I grew up going to it!
Swimming: It hasn’t been open to swimming for the last couple of years due to low water levels (sad face), but it’s still a great (and free!) place to visit. Jacob’s Well is an artesian spring and under water cave system that goes down 140 feet deep.
Everything Else: It’s an 81-acre-park open to the public from 8am-6pm daily for hiking and view of the spring. There are multiple hiking trails to choose from. See the trail map here!
Hiking Trails, Golf, Zip Line & More
Old Baldy Park (aka Mount Baldy): Another Wimberley local classic, Mount Baldy. It’s a short hike, but pretty steep. Walk up the stairs to the top, and you get the best overlook of the whole town. You’ll often find people working out (if that’s your thing) by taking multiple trips up and down.
Cypress Creek Nature Trail & Preserve: The preserve itself is 7+ acres with a little more than 2 miles of trails. It’s a protected area right along the creek, and fun nature trail for all ages.
Double J Ranch Golf Club (in Woodcreek): A semi-private 18 hole course located in the heart of Wimberley. A round of golf costs $59 during the week (Monday-Thursday) and $75 on the weekends and holidays.
Jackalope Golf: No matter the weather (hello air condition), you can play a round in this Foresight Golf GCHawk Simulator. It costs $50/hour for up to 4 people. It takes the full hour for a single player to play 18 holes, and about 3 hours with friends.
Wimberley Zip Line Adventures: Zip through 15 miles of epic views on 10 different lines. Cost is $102/person for the entire experience, and adventurers must be 9 years old and 65 pounds.
Horseback Adventures of Central Texas: Get spectacular views that you can only see on horseback! Start with a short lesson and set off. Get details here.
Grateful Angler: Visit their fish lure shop on the square or book a local guided fishing trip.
